The truth about oil changes - Lithia Mazda of Fresno
We all know that we need to change our engine oil and the oil filter in accordance to the manufacturer's scheduled maintenance calendar, which you can find in the "Maintenance" section of your car's owner's manual. We accept this as a maintenance requirement, but do we know why?
Oil acts as a lubricant for your engine, reducing wear, friction, and noise while forming a seal between the pistons, rings, and cylinder walls. Oil also acts as a cleanser, removing small particles from the components it contacts to keep things operating smoothly. When fresh oil isn't used to clean out the engine, buildup of varnish can occur, causing damage and proving to be toxic to your car. This is why we suggest you schedule an appointment as soon as you know when you will be needing an oil change.
